In this class, older students are paired with younger students to build connections through reading and collaboration. Each session begins with the pairs reading a book together, giving older students the opportunity to support and encourage their younger buddies developing literacy skills. After reading, the pairs complete a simple craft related to the story. The program focuses on building positive relationships between students of different ages. Younger students gain confidence and excitement about reading, while older students develop leadership, responsibility, and teamwork skills as they guide and work alongside their buddy.
Instructor: NES Parent and professional photographer Ashley Richer
Grade 4 only, Limit 8, $50
This five-week introductory photography course gives students hands-on experience with DSLR cameras and basic studio lighting techniques. Throughout the program, students will learn how cameras work, explore creative photography skills, and experiment with lighting to create different photographic effects. Students will apply what they learn by taking photographs in several categories, including still objects, light painting, peer portraits, and self-portraits. The course will conclude with time dedicated to photo editing, where students will learn basic editing techniques to enhance their images. An additional enrichment day will be included at the end of the program to allow students extra time to complete and refine their final edits. By the end of the course, students will have a small collection of original photographs and a stronger understanding of both the creative and technical sides of photography.

From creating stunning centerpieces to designing outdoor garden installations, each week offers a new botanical adventure. Students will leave each session with both a beautiful creation and new knowledge about plants, gardening, and caring for our natural environment. Please have students ‘dress to make a mess’!

Each week students will be introduced to a new animal! They will have the opportunity to have hands-on time as well as learn new facts about that animal and animals closely related to them. Students will then create an animal-inspired craft to take home. Animals may include a hedgehog, chameleon, baby bunny, dragon, gecko, tortoise or frog!
Instructor: NES Art teacher Jessica DeRemer
Grades 3-4, limit 20, $50
Students will create a three-dimensional sculpture during this enrichment activity. They will begin by building an armature as the base of their sculpture, then cover it with plaster to form the structure. Once the plaster has dried, students will paint and decorate their sculptures to bring their creations to life. This hands-on project encourages creativity, problem-solving, and artistic expression.
Sessions will be run by coaches from NextPlay Training.
Grades K-4, limit 20, $50
The NextPlay After School Soccer Program provides a fun, active environment where students can develop their soccer skills after school. Sessions will focus on ball control, foot skills, small games, and teamwork while encouraging confidence and a positive “Next Play” mindset. The program will be held outdoors when weather permits. If needed, we are comfortable using a classroom-sized indoor space and adjusting the session to focus on foot skills such as ladder work, cone drills, and ball control exercises, all designed to be safe for indoor settings.
NOTE: Students should wear athletic clothing and bring a water bottle.
